I have been building websites since I was about 12. They started pretty terribly, but I have taught myself a lot over the years, and I now have a great toolbox to create stunning and functional websites and apps.
For as long as I can remember, I have always loved the technical side of events. Whenever I would go to the theatre or a concert, I would spend half of my time just looking at what equipment was being used. When I was 15, I managed to get involved in the theatre at my school. The theatre quickly became the place where I spent most of my time. I started just helping rig lights for plays, then I learnt how to operate lighting and sound, and by the end of my time at school, I was helping with all aspect of the production. I loved it so much that I even stayed for a year after finishing school.
After leaving my job at the school was when I co-founded my first proper business called After Dark Technical Ltd. After Dark provided a complete production solution for plays, concerts, exhibitions, and corporate events, we would provide the lighting, audio, video, and rigging equipment as well as the crew to set everything up, run the show, and then take everything down again. After a few years, we decided to shut down After Dark and move onto other things. After Dark will not be my last venture in the events industry, though.
I love writing, it is not something that I am amazing at, but I would like to think that I am getting better as I write more. Currently, I publish my writing on two different platforms. The first is my blog, The Watch Talk, which includes writing reviews, first impressions, and informative pieces. The second is Medium, for which I write educational articles about various programming topics.
One day I would love to write a fiction book inspired by Andy McNab's books, my current favourite author.
There is nothing quite like starting your own business, the feeling of excitement from bringing something new to the world, the feeling of terror that it might fail, and the feeling of joy knowing that you are the boss.
This is why I have often chosen to start my own business over working for another company, and I am very fortunate to have been able to make this decision. So far, I have started two formal companies, After Dark Technical Ltd, and SWAN Clothing Ltd, I am also in the process of starting another company in the events industry.
One of my goals in life is to one day create a foundation where new entrepreneurs can learn everything they need to about building and growing a business, as well as receive funding to make their dream a reality.
I love the outdoors. One of my dreams is to live in the mountains near Whistler in Canada. Although I don't get to do it very often, going for hikes in the mountains is one of my favourites things to do. I also love snowboarding and enjoy going for a run.
I have a passion for watches and a love for cars. I probably spend way to much time looking at photos of them and watching videos about them. I would love to one day build a watch from scratch, but I have a lot of learning to do before that.
I also really enjoy games, both board games and video games. My favourite board game is called ZomBN1. It involves going around Brighton (my closest major town) and completing tasks while trying not to get eaten by zombies. If you like board games then I highly recommend giving ZomBN1 a try, it is an excellent easy to game to learn and a lot of fun to play with friends and family. I have two favourite video games, Far Cry 3 was my favourite for a very long time, but recently I played Red Dead Redemption 2 and loved it. Now I am torn between which one is my favourite.
My other biggest hobby is music. I listen to a lot of music, everything from rock, to hip hop, and opera. I also really enjoy making music, I play the drums and the piano, although I don't do this as much as I used to.
