I have been building websites since I was about 12. They started off pretty terrible, but I have taught myself a lot over the years and I now have a great toolbox to create stunning and functional websites and apps.

For as long as I can remember, I have always loved the technical side of events. Whenever I would go to the theatre or a concert, I would spend half of my time just looking at what equipment was being used. When I was 15 I managed to get involved with the theatre at my school, this quickly became the place where I spent most of my time. I started out just helping rig lights for plays, then I learnt how to operate lighting and sound, and by the end of my time at school, I was helping with all aspect of the production. I loved it so much that I even stayed for a year after finishing school.

This is when I co-founded my first proper business called After Dark Technical Ltd. At After Dark, we provided a complete production solution for plays, concerts, exhibitions, and corporate events. This means that we would provide the lighting, audio, video, and rigging equipment as well as the crew to set everything up, run the show, and then take everything down again. After a few years, we decided to shut down After Dark and move onto other things, this will not be my last venture in the events industry though.

In 2019 I started making programming videos on YouTube, and programming classes on Skillshare. On both platforms I teach all aspects of development for both the web and for apps.

So far all my Skillshare classes are about the fundamentals of various topics, for example, my class Beginners Guide To Javascript covers everything you need to know to get started developing for the web with Javascript. In the future, I plan to create classes which will go through a whole project, for example creating an image sharing platform, or a blog.

My YouTube videos are more specific, for example in a video I may go through an animation framework, or look at how to upload a file to a server.

Being able to create content like this is something I have been wanting to do for quite a while but I have never been able to create the time to do it. This is why I set up a Patreon account, here viewers of my content can support me, and the more supporters I have, the more time I can spend creating new content. If you are a supporter, you also get a few perks, the main one being access to my Discord server where supporters can chat between themselves and also ask me any questions that they would like. You also get early access to new content, exclusive access to live streams, and exclusive access to any giveaways that I hold.

If you would like to join the community and support me, then you can do so by going to patreon.com/willswan.

There is nothing quite like starting your own business, the feeling of excitement from bringing something new to the world, the feeling of terror that it might fail, and the feeling of joy knowing that you are the boss.

This is why I have often chosen to start my own business over working for another company, and I am very fortunate to have been able to make this decision. So far I have started two formal companies, After Dark Technical Ltd, and SWAN Clothing Ltd, I am also in the process of starting another company in the events industry.

One of my goals in life is to one day create a foundation where new entrepreneurs can learn everything they need to about creating and growing a business, as well as receive funding to make their dream a reality.

I love the outdoors, one of my dreams is to live in the mountains near Whistler in Canada. Although I don't get to do it very often, going for hikes in the mountains is one of my favourites things to do. I also love snowboarding and really enjoy going for a run.

I have a passion for watches and a love for cars. I probably spend way to much time looking at photos of them and watching videos about them. I would love to one day build my own watch from scratch,  but I have a lot of learning to do before that though.

I also really enjoy games, both board games and video games. My favourite board game is called ZomBN1, it involves going around Brighton (my closest major town) and completing tasks while trying not to get eaten by zombies. If you like board games then I highly recommend giving ZomBN1 a go, it is a nice easy to game to learn and a lot of fun to play with friends and family. I have two favourite video games, Far Cry 3 was my favourite for a very long time, but recently I played Red Dead Redemption 2 and absolutely loved it. Now I am torn between which one is my favourite.

My other biggest hobby is music, I listen to a lot of music, everything from rock, to hip hop, and opera. I also really enjoy making my own music, I play the drums and the piano, although I don't do this as much as I used to.
